Very little is known about station WTAG in Providence. WTAG's licence is listed as being active from June 30, 1923-June 30, 1924 1. In an unrelated sports fisherman aticle, the owner of Kerns Music is Edwin I Kern 2. Kern was born in 1875 4 Another station in Worcester, Massachusetts used the same call from .June 30, 1926-March 29, 1941 1. One interesting item found in the Providence Journal in 1923 was an ad for rhe listed ownder of the station, Kerns Music Company, stating they had an exhibit of "Rhode Islands First Radio Apparatus" and that it was over 30 years old and you could come in an operate it. Over 30 years old in 1923 would put the date at around 1893! Massie started his wireless experiments in 1895. Did Kerns have an early Massie wireless apparatus on display? Further research is needed. Hopefully I will be able to elaborate on WTAG and the exhibit in a future post. "Stay Tuned". Edwin I Kern died of a cerebral hemorrhage on March 31, 1933. 3 Providence Journal March 25, 1923 Providence Journal April 1, 1923 Providence Journal November 18, 1923 KSD Log and Pamphlet 1924 Presto April 25 1925 1 Chronology of call letters WTAG 2 Music Trades Volume 57 April 26, 1919 3 New York Times April 1, 1933 4 Billion Graves |
